Waters Corporation presented Professor Sarah Trimpin of Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA, with the ASMS 2010 Waters Research Award, an award presented annually that recognises scientific achievement in mass spectrometry. The award presentation took place at the Salt Palace Convention Center during ASMS.
The latest production introductions and news from the 58th ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics, being held in Salt Lake City, UT, USA between 23 and 27 May 2010.
Xevo G2 QTof is a next-generation benchtop exact mass MS/MS mass spectrometer and is the first Xevo time-of-flight mass spectrometer to feature Waters QuanTof technology, currently only available with Waters SYNAPT G2 MS and G2 HDMS mass spectrometers. This technology brings research-grade quantitative and qualitative analytical performance to research, academic and industrial laboratories.
The Waters Xevo TQ-S tandem mass spectrometer represents a step change in targeted quantitative UPLC/Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) analysis. This system is capable of accurately measuring target compounds in complex samples at femtogram levels or below. The Xevo TQ-S is designed for UPLC/MS/MS applications such as biological and medical research, bioanalysis, food safety, environmental monitoring and forensics testing where speed, sensitivity, and accuracy are of paramount importance.
Agilent Technologies has announced the 6490 Triple Quadrupole LC/MS System with iFunnel technology. iFunnel technology revolutionises the process of atmospheric pressure ion sampling, driving large sensitivity gains for most applications. The new system has a 25% smaller footprint than previous models, with a sensitivity specification that is 10 times higher.
Agilent Technologies and Stemina Biomarker Discovery have announced efforts to accelerate Stemina’s metobolomic research. Stemina uses metabolomic analysis of stem cells for the discovery of biomarkers for use in drug screening, drug development and drug development.
Agilent Technologies has introduced the Agilent Forensic Toxicology Application Kit for its liquid chromatography/hybrid quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry (LC-QToF MS) systems. The application kit allows users to quickly and easily set up screening experiments that produce high-confidence results.
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments has partnered with CovalX to offer the AXIMA MegaTOF, an integrated MALDI solution for ultra high-mass applications, including protein complex characterisation, therapeutic protein aggregates, antibody–antigen interactions, polymer analysis and high mass bioimaging.
Bruker has announced a novel MALDI molecular imaging system based on the high performance of the solariX FTMS. The new MALDI-solariX combines the extreme analytical performance of the solariX FTMS (resolving power > 1,000,000 at m/z 400 at 7.0 tesla field strength) with a robust and highly sensitive MALDI source to provide an unrivalled platform for high performance molecular imaging of small molecules (e.g. drug, metabolites, lipids) in tissue.
Bruker and several collaborating scientists are presenting a number of milestone achievements in the analysis of intact proteins, including the direct sequencing and characterisation using Bruker's new maXis ETD system. The high mass accuracy, resolving power and dynamic range which are essential to dissect complex patterns of product ions in protein fragmentation allowed, for the first time, performing ETD-based tandem mass spectrometry on biomolecular ions above 60 kDa routinely. These results represent a new record for the mass spectrometric sequencing of intact proteins and unequivocally demonstrate the dramatic advantages of maXis ETD technology in ETD-based top-down protein structural analysis.
Bruker Daltonics' new Chemical Analysis business announced the release of MS Workstation 7, the next generation software package for the newly acquired 3x0 series GC triple-quadrupole (GC-QQQ) mass spectrometers. MS Workstation 7 features Scheduled Multiple-Reaction Monitoring (s-MRM), which facilitates method development, maintenance and data reduction tasks for challenging multi-component methods.
JEOL USA have introduced of the company’s first commercially available MALDI-ToF mass spectrometer, the JEOL JMS-S3000 SpiralTOF. The SpiralTOF has new ToF ion optics with an extended flight length in a compact footprint, delivering a resolving power of greater than 60,000 (FWHM) over a wide mass range of m/z 10–30,000.
PerkinElmer is launching the Flexar SQ 300 MS platform at ASMS. Combining efficient chromatographic separation with mass spectrometry detection capabilities, the new Flexar SQ 300 MS system is designed for analysts seeking a fast, accurate and robust system to quickly identify and quantify compounds.
PerkinElmer and Abbott have announced that the companies will jointly present on the applications of exact mass time-of-flight (ToF) mass spectrometry for advancing pathogen detection research at ASMS.
